Bioroids
Bioroids are a special sub-type of Reploid containing living organic components. Developed by the Bara Corporation, based in Japan, they are relatively rare.
Bioroids are not cyborgs; where cyborgs are organic beings with inorganic modifications, bioroids are inorganic beings with organic modifications. Bioroids can only be built using plant or fungal components at present, as all testing with animal tissue have led to severe errors, tissue rejections, and the eventual death of the reploid neural-net.
They are relatively rare due to their high expense and the difficulty of creation; however, advances in mechabotany, spearheaded by Professor Gaudile (better known for his work with Force Metal) have made the process much more reliable in the past year. Additionally, the Bara "monopoly" on bioroids has been broken; while they remain the main producers and the greatest experts on the process, virtually all major factions are capable of creating bioroids.
For all of this trouble, one gets a far more reliable and self-maintaining entity than a standard reploid, and bioroids are used for long-term remote projects of various sorts, as well as for ecological management.
Several notes about bioroids:
- Due to efficent construction, Bioroids gain bonuses to Weapon Energy.
- A Reploid cannot be made into a Bioroid; Bioroids must be created from the ground up.
- Bioroids can take any physical form, but must be plant- or fungus-based in some form. Animal-based bioroids (as opposed to 'aniform' Reploids) are not possible at present.
- Bioroids must be either Fire or Chemical weak to represent the relative fraility of their biological components. They may take other weaknesses if desired, but Fire or Chemical must be among them.
