Megaman MUSH

Cyborgs

Cybernetic replacement of human body parts is a common technology in Mega Man MUSH's setting, having existed on a large scale for over seventy years. Developments in cybernetic bodies were fundamental to the development of robots. Medically necessary cybernetics, such as replacements for failing organs, are a common part of the medical toolkit in the 23rd century, and they are not looked down upon; cybernetic replacements have replaced most conventional mobility options for the handicapped.

It is possible to enhance as well as to replace. Public opinion is varied on the use of cybernetics to augment one's abilities. Generally, the more gratuitous it is, the less society as a whole will like it; although many subcultures romanticize cybernetics, just as many abhor them. A police officer with a cybernetic arm and sub-dermal armor plating will be seen as prudent and dedicated; a street tough with a similar set of enhancements will be seen as menacing.

There is some risk of adjustment to new cybernetics, especially when they provide either great enhancement of physical abilities or entirely new things, such as tentacle-limbs or new realms of sensory experience. This adjustment rarely - but messily - leads to what is casually termed "cyber-psychosis," which is the reason for most popular reluctance to embrace cybernetics on a wider scale.

Cybernetics are available and legal in most of the civilized world, although they are fairly expensive. Additionally, while "medical" cybernetics are often built to resemble human body parts well enough to decieve casual onlookers, "combat" cybernetics tend to be obvious, either approaching reploid-style armor or extensive, full-body tattoos in the case of the Yakuza. Cyborg original characters do not have any formal stat limitations, although the higher the statistics derived from the cybernetics, the more total cybernetics are involved. This has no coded benefit or penalty, but can be important in roleplay.
