"My associates will cut the old chains that bind the world."
Daniel Espinosa was an artist in Portugal. He was an only child in a single-parent household; his father had died in an accident at the Reploid factory where he worked when he was very young. His work was heavily influenced by this traumatic event in his life. Daniel's airbrushed paintings dealt regularly with insect-like biomechanical subjects and stark, horrific vistas of death and suffering. Lacking much commercial interest in his work, Daniel supported himself by being one of the many artists in a digital animation studio specializing in programming targeted at preschoolers. He despised every second of this job and actively worked to subvert the programs he worked on whenever he could. When the war between the Robot Masters and the Mavericks destroyed his country, he was left as a refugee in his own homeland. The horror he saw further twisted his already fragile mind. Daniel became fixated on the end of the world, fixating on Alexia Ashford as the model of his ideal. Surviving in refugee camps for years, Daniel found his way to Dr. Weil's settlement. It didn't take long for him to be "volunteered" for the process, which grotesquely mangled him into a form that only has a transient resemblance to a human being. Yet now he is happy -- in the service to his masters, he finds completion. In the Death Mantis armor, Daniel is an instrument of death. Outside of the armor, his freakish ability to change his external coloration while being absolutely silent and still may make him even more dangerous.
